Bishop's football player in coma

A Bishop's University football player is in critical but stable condition after suffering a brain hemorrhage during a game in Sherbrooke, Que. Saturday.

Bishop's Gaiters defensive lineman Kevin Kwasny, 21, was rushed to hospital during the halftime break in a game against the Concordia Stingers after appearing disoriented in the locker room.

Kwasny, who's originally from Winnipeg, underwent emergency surgery Sunday and is reportedly in a medically-induced coma.

His family flew to Quebec early Sunday morning to be at the hospital.

It's unclear what caused the hemorrhaging. Gaiters coach Tony Addona said Kwasny does not have a history of head injuries, and he did not know if Kwasny took a blow to the head during the game or not.

"It's difficult to tell. Kevin played the whole first half without incident," said Addona. "He was lucid, talking to the players, talking to the coaches, everything seemed fine until he got into the dressing room."

Medical staff for the university football team were also unable to say what caused the injury.

Kwasny is in his fourth year at Bishop's University, and has played for the Gaiters for three years.
