The 200-metre stretch of road in front of the Bell Centre will be transformed into a pedestrian-only zone as part of $100 million in renovations planned for inside and outside the arena.

Montreal Canadiens owner Geoff Molson announced the three-year plan Wednesday in Montreal.

The changes also include the installation of a glass-canopy to overhang part of the street, named Canadiens Avenue, while a massive video screen will be placed over the front entrance as part of the proposed redesign presented to the City of Montreal.

The interior of the 19-year-old arena will be renovated as well, with a new sports restaurant, video screens and WiFi service. Lodges and concessions stands will be remodeled.

Fans filling the 21,288 seats at Thursday's home opener between the Canadiens and Rangers will likely notice that the seats have already been replaced.

Events at the Bell Centre attracts 2.9 million visitors annually, according to a study by the KPMG1 Firm.
