The student group ASSÉ is planning a number of demonstrations around the city's downtown today.

The demonstrators are protesting against the Liberal government's austerity measures.

Despite the rain, about 25 students gathered at the corner of President-Kennedy Avenue and de Bleury Street.

Montreal police declared the protest illegal.

A poster from the student group states other demonstrations are also planned throughout the day to protest against oil and gas exploration, the banks, supplemental government fees, in addition to the government's austerity measures.
