It appears some Winnipeg drivers are not listening to messages from police and advocacy groups like MADD about the the dangers of drinking and driving.
Between Dec. 18 and Dec. 24, Winnipeg Police stopped 1325 vehicles and arrested 12 adults with impaired driving. Police also suspended three licenses for 72 hours, according to a news release.
Winnipeg Police's Festive Season Checkstop Program, third week results:
- 1325 vehicles stopped
- 17 roadside breath tests administered
- 3 72-hour driver's license suspension
- 12 impaired Driving Arrests
- 38 traffic-related Provincial Offence Notices (PON) issued
Winnipeg Police "strongly encourages all motorists to have a plan in place before you go out this holiday season and throughout the year," said the news release.
On New Year's Eve there are several ways Winnipeggers can get home safely from celebrations. Operation Red Nose provides a ride home for partygoers and their cars and Winnipeg Transit offers free transit from 7:00 p.m. until end of service.
