Deep freeze continues in Winnipeg Sunday

An extreme cold warning continues Sunday for much of Manitoba, but there's good news: the cold snap will end tonight and by Tuesday, the weather will have warmed up drastically.

An extreme cold warning continues Sunday for much of Manitoba, but there's good news: the cold snap will end tonight and by Tuesday, the weather will have warmed up drastically.

In Winnipeg Sunday, it will feel like –40 to –43 with wind chill.

It is possible to get frostbite on exposed skin in less than 10 minutes in the conditions.

We'll see some flurries or light snow overnight along with rising temperatures and the shift in temperature will happen Sunday night into Monday morning.

By Monday morning, it will warm up to around –16 C, and the temperature will keep going up toward Tuesday.

CBC meterologist John Sauder says to expect the temperature to warm up to the –3 range.

Sunday forecast:

  • High –21 C
  • Low –30 C
  • Winds south @ 10 km/h in the morning, south @ 20/25 km/h in the afternoon
  • Flurries overnight are expected

Normal temperatures for this time of year are a high of –11 C and a low of –21 C.
