Winnipeg Transit and the union representing 1,100 bus drivers and 250 maintenance workers are back at the bargaining table.

John Callahan, president of the Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 1505, said the union's bargaining committee will meet with transit officials Tuesday afternoon to negotiate a new deal.

They recently met informally and they're not far apart on the outstanding issues of safety and working conditions, Callahan said, adding he he's confident there will be some kind of a deal.

He also said no immediate job action is expected.

Many bus routes were impacted by delays and cancellations due to job action in May, when the union implemented a ban on overtime.

The job action ended when a tentative agreement was reached between the sides on May 22. However, the deal was dumped when 51 per cent of union members voted against it.
