The Polaris Music Prize has extended its long list by one, adding Winnipeg's Greg MacPherson.

There was a miscalculation due to a new web-based voting system and as a result of a correction made this week, MacPherson's Fireball has been added.

So instead of the customary 40 records, the 2014 long list will feature 41 albums.

Fireball is MacPherson's sixth album and his second consecutive one to make the Polaris long list. His fifth record, Mr. Invitation, released in 2010 was long listed that year.

Now in its ninth year, the Polaris Music Prize is awarded to the artist or band that creates the best Canadian full-length album each year — regardless of genre, label or sales.

The prize is decided by a 200 member jury, which includes national music journalists, authors, broadcasters, and bloggers.

This year's Polaris short list of 10 artists will be announced July 15 in Toronto and the winner will be revealed at a gala on Sept. 22.

The winner is awarded $30,000 while the nine other shortlisted artists get $2,000 each.
