The Arlington Street Bridge has been found unsafe for drivers, and will be closed within the next five years.

On Thursday the city held a meeting at the Rossbrook House.

“Right now transit buses can’t go over it and that goes for trucks as well,” said Mike Pagtakhan, Point Douglas city councillor.

The city is working on a year-long study to figure out if the bridge should be rebuilt, or if drivers can get through the area a different way.

Pagtakhan would like to see the bridge rebuilt.

“The Arlington Bridge maintains an important connection between the North End and the inner city, and the rest of downtown and everything else. It's a huge connection, it's been there for a hundred years and I think that connection is extremely important,” he said.
