Winnipeg Olympian Susan Auch named to Canada's Sports Hall of Fame

Winnipeg Olympian Susan Auch will be inducted into the athlete category of Canada's Sports Hall of Fame.

Auch was a five-time Olympian in speed skating, winning bronze at the 1988 Calgary Games, and silver in Lillehammer in 1994 and Nagano in 1998.

The Sports Hall of Fame says this year's inductees are a mix of individuals from across the sporting world who have broken barriers, achieved international acclaim, and distinguished themselves as world-class athletes.

Joining Auch are Olympian and NHL defenceman Paul Coffey, Paralympic swimmer Michael Edgson, cross-country skiers Sharon and Shirley Firth (who are also the first Indigenous athletes to represent Canada at the Olympic Winter Games), international soccer player Craig Forrest, judo athlete Nicolas Gill, three-time Olympic Games Women's field hockey coach Marina van der Merwe, and two-time Olympic hockey gold medalist Danielle Goyette.

Also in the group is Lori-Ann Muenzer, the only Canadian to win an Olympic gold medal in cycling; Jocelyne Bourassa, who helped develop women's golf; and Jennifer Heil, the first Canadian woman to win a World Cup overall mogul title

Ceremonies will take place June 17 at the Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, and October 21 at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto.
