A 47-year-old Winnipeg man is facing multiple charges after allegedly posing as a police officer and trying to pull people over in the Point Douglas area Friday night.

After getting a report just after 8 p.m. of a pickup truck equipped with emergency lights trying to pull over vehicles in the area of Higgins Avenue and the Louise Bridge, police say they found a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado truck parked in an open field on Higgins around 10 p.m.

As officers approached the vehicle, the driver, who was the only person in the truck, got out and "challenged their authority and jurisdiction," police said in a Saturday news release.

The driver then got back into the truck and refused to exit, police say.

He resisted as officers pulled him from the truck and they used a stun gun on the man, police said.

After searching the man's truck, the officers seized an emergency light bar from the windshield, along with a stun baton, two collapsible batons, cannabis and contraband cigarettes, police say.

The 47-year-old  was charged with personating a peace officer, possession of a prohibited weapon knowing it's unauthorized, two counts of possession of a weapon, assaulting a peace officer, resisting a peace officer, and unlawful possession or sale of tobacco products, police say.
