Ondrej Pavelec was the best player in the NHL for the week ending March 22.

That's the word from the National Hockey League today as the Jets' goalie was named the league's first star ahead of outstanding efforts from the Ottawa Senators' centreman Kyle Turris and Tampa Bay Lightning's Ben Bishop.

Pavelec helped the Jets to home wins over San Jose, St. Louis, and Washington, the latter being a 28-save shutout on Saturday.

The 27-year-old netminder has stopped 98-of-101 shots in the three games and has been in goal for four straight wins for the team as it pushes for a playoff spot.

Pavelec is 17-14-7 with a .916 save percentage, 2.40 goals against average, and a pair of shutouts.

Dustin Byfuglien is the only other Jet to earn the NHL first star this season.
