Winnipeg home listed at record-setting $7.45M

A stamped copper ceiling, elevators and gold-painted cabinets are featured in a Winnipeg home that is on the market for $7.45 million.

The 13,200-square-foot mansion in the city's Tuxedo neighbourhood is the most expensive home ever to be listed in Winnipeg.

Oh, and those gold-painted cabinets? That's gold, as in the precious metal.

The home, built in 2006, also comes with $1-million worth of electronics.

There are five bedrooms, nine bathrooms, and 24-foot high ceilings in the living room.

The record price for a home sold in Winnipeg is a little more than $3 million, according to Peter Squire, spokesman for the Winnipeg Realtors Association.

The owners of the Tuxedo home did not want to be interviewed or identified, but they allowed CBC News to have an exclusive tour.

The house has custom millwork, oak, marble and limestone accents throughout, and it comes with an annual tax bill of almost $30,000.

The sale of the home could be a sign of the times in Manitoba, where the economy remained robust during the recent downturn.

According to a new forecast from the TD Financial Group, the province is one of three expected to not see a decline in average home selling prices over the next year.

Prices are expected to slide everywhere but Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta.

Manitoba realtors set a provincial record in 2009 by selling 14 homes at prices exceeding $1 million, said Squire.
