Winnipeg man hosts Easter weekend party for families, including refugees
Syrian refugee families among those invited to Hussain Guisti's party through Sunday
A Winnipeg man is hosting a free holiday party for all families, including Syrian refugees, over the Easter long weekend.
Hussain Guisti's community party began Friday at the Greendell Park Community Centre in St. Vital and features a number of large inflatable bouncy structures.
On Saturday and Sunday, he will help bring about 300 Syrian refugees, including children, to the party.
However, everyone is invited to attend the party, which Guisti calls the "biggest kids party in Manitoba." He said he has only one reason for organizing it.
"For the sake of doing good. There's no other reason," he said. "Just doing good for the sake of doing good."
It's not the first time Guisti has organized a gathering for families. He held a similar event over the Christmas holidays, and he said he has been holding free community parties at his mosque for seven years.
Guisti said people have been learning about the parties through word of mouth. His first event brought out about 93 children, while the Christmas party had 1,400 people.
He said he is expecting 2,000 people this weekend.
