Nine people were injured — including a nine-year-old girl in critical condition and a 71-year-old woman in unstable condition — after a major crash involving four vehicles at Pipeline Road and the Perimeter Highway Saturday afternoon.

A total of seven patients were taken to hospital, said police.

Photos from the scene show an SUV and minivan were involved in the collision, which happened around 12:30 p.m. CT. A Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service spokesperson said they took five people to hospital.

Interlake Regional Health Authority ambulances were used to take two others to hospital in stable condition, the WFPS spokesperson said.

A light standard was also toppled.

Traffic was seen backed up along Pipeline, triggering major delays.

Police urged drivers to use caution and said eastbound traffic was being diverted and that the eastbound Perimeter was closed to traffic.

RCMP said a traffic collision reconstructionist remained at the scene. The cause of the crash was not yet known.
