A Winnipeg barber wants to help refugees, like himself, just starting out in Manitoba.

Ali Al-dulaimi owns the WKND Barber Shop on McDermot Avenue in Winnipeg. He is also a former refugee from Iraq.

"When I was in the refugee camp I was always looking for a home and I was looking for people to help me," he recalled. Al-dulaimi settled in Manitoba in 1996.

"When people ... help you it can mean a lot."

All sales made at WKND on Monday, plus any additional donations from clients, will be donated to Welcome Place, he said.

"They can do whatever they need to do with it," said Al-dulaimi.

The barber hopes to raise $3,000 on Monday and as of 5:00 p.m. Al-dulaimi was confident he raised more than $1,000. He plans to stay open past closing time at 7 p.m. if it means making his goal.

"We're blessed, we got everything, God blessed us with everything and we should give back to people who [don't] have anything," said Al-dulaimi.

The WKND Barber Shop is located at 233 McDermot Ave. in Winnipeg.
