It might not have been the final frontier but William Shatner boldly took the stage at Central Canadian Comic Con (C4) in Winnipeg on Friday night.

The former Star Trek captain kicked off the weekend-long event exploring all things comic book, gaming, anime, science fiction, and horror.

Shatner told the crowd at RBC Convention Centre about growing up in Canada and how every city makes him feel at home.

"You go from city to city and there are parts of every city that look exactly alike," he said.

The crowd was packed at RBC Convention Centre with fans eager to hear about the adventures of being Captain James T. Kirk. (CBC)
Shatner also spoke about the 50th anniversary of the show that made him famous around the world as Captain James T. Kirk.

"How can it be possible when I'm not even 50 years yet," Shatner said as the crowd burst out in laughter.

"The time it just goes by, anyone over 50 knows what I'm talking about."

Other guest at the convention include Tia Carrere from Wayne's World, Supernatural's Mark Pellegrino and Battlestar Galactica's Aleks Paunovic.
