Snowfall warning in effect for western Manitoba this weekend
Low-pressure system rolls in from Montana blanketing some areas with snow Saturday through Monday
Western Manitoba could be in for a dump of snow on Saturday, with Environment and Climate Change Canada forecasting up to 20 centimetres for the region.
A low-pressure system over Montana is expected to travel eastward, bringing snow to southern Manitoba, the weather agency said.
It's issued snowfall warnings for much of southwestern and central-western Manitoba, including the Swan River, Riding Mountain, Dauphin, Minnedosa and Virden areas.
The warnings also extended into the northern Interlake as of Saturday morning.
Snowfall will begin in western Manitoba overnight Saturday and head further east on Sunday, Environment Canada said, bringing 15 to 20 centimetres to areas under the snowfall warning.
Accumulating snow in most areas will taper off by Sunday evening, but light snow will continue in some eastern regions into Monday, the agency said.
The snowfall warning may be expanded eastward through the Interlake region as the system progresses, Environment Canada said.
It warns travel conditions could be hazardous in some locations as heavy snowfall is expected to reduce visibility.
