A vigil is to be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at the monument for missing and murdered indigenous women at The Forks.

Convicted serial killer Shawn Lamb was originally charged in connection with her death.

But charges were stayed in November because of a lack of evidence.

Nepinak was Sue Caribou's niece. She said she can't believe she's has been gone so long.

"It doesn't get any easier as each year goes by," she said. "It seems like it's getting harder and harder every year and there hasn't been any justice for her."

Caribou said at least now, there's a proper place to mourn and honour Tanya and other missing and murdered women at the new monument.

"I do go there by myself," she said. "I didn't know where to go before to do a prayer. I used to just sit at home. By the monument you can put tobacco down, It feels like they're with you."

Organizers for the vigil said they will sell tickets tonight for a draw. They hope to raise money to build a monument in Tanya Nepinak's honour.
