Thunderstorms bring golf ball-sized hail, strong winds to southwest Manitoba

A humid and unstable air mass brought thunderstorms and golf ball-sized hail and strong winds to southwest Manitoba on Saturday afternoon, Environment Canada says.

In Clearwater, Man., winds were gusting to 108 km/hr

A humid and unstable air mass brought thunderstorms, hail and strong winds to southwest Manitoba on Saturday afternoon.

Environment Canada reports Oak River, Kemnay, and Ninette had hail the size of golf balls. In Beresford, Dunrea, and Oak Lake there was also hail the size of a toonie.

The winds were blowing in Clearwater with gusts up to 108 km/hr, while Minto and Ninette were gusting to about 92 km/hr.

Environment Canada said Hamiota, Clearwater, Ninette, and Minto also received over 40 millimetres of rainfall in 24 hours.

The wild weather is likely not over yet, thunderstorms are expected to roll through Manitoba again Sunday evening.
