The Good Will hosts a hip-hop showcase and the WAG hosts a skate and snowboarding film fest
Friday night is super busy with a hip-hop showcase at The Good Will, the Kakagi/Manitobandits show at Times Change(d) and a HUNKS podcast taping at Wee Johnny's.
Saturday, the Boarder X Film Fest continues at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, and Sunday, there's a new beer from Peg Beer Co.
I urge you to save some strength for the Winnipeg Comedy Festival next week, though!
WHAT: MUSIC — 3PEAT at The Good Will
When: Friday, March 31, at 9 p.m.
Where: The Good Will at 625 Portage Ave.
Cost: $10
3PEAT is performing at The Good Will Friday night as part of a Manitoba Music hip-hop showcase.
Also on the bill is Chris Bxnnxtt, Wynrush, Len Bowen and CJ the Grey, making it a good mix of newer and more experienced guys.
If you aren't already acquainted with the scene, this is a good way to see what the city is offering right now.
The only big names missing from this one are The Lytics and smrtdeath, so check out a few of their videos before you go and consider the whole thing a good primer on Winnipeg hip hop.
WHAT: COMEDY — HUNKS podcast taping
When: Friday, March 31, 9-11 p.m.
Where: Wee Johnny's at 177 McDermot Ave.
Cost: $5
Rory Fallis, Tim Gray, Quinn Greene, Matt Nightingale and Dana Smith will all be there, with special guest Jane Testar.
You might know the very funny Testar from Hot Thespian Action or Outside Joke.
This one is super affordable and should wrap up early enough for you to head down Main Street a few blocks and check out the Kakagi/Manitobandits show at Times Change(d).
WHAT: MUSIC — Kakagi and Manitobandits at Times Change(d)
When: Friday, March 31, 10 p.m.
Where: Times Change(d) at 234 Main St.
Cost: $10
Kakagi are kind of like the Weakerthans but with a folkier vibe.
The Manitobandits are a relatively new thing made up of Blond(e) Goth, Ultra Mega and Smoky Tiger.
Both bands have songs that will make you feel feelings, but drinks are cheap at Times so you should be able to remedy that fairly quickly.
Oh and don't show up early for this one — there's a live taping happening until at least 9 p.m.
WHAT: FILM — Boarder X Film Fest
When: Friday and Saturday
Where: The Winnipeg Art Gallery at 300 Memorial Blvd.
Cost: FREE
You can have drinks and watch skateboarding videos in a fancy art gallery this weekend.
The Winnipeg Art Gallery has two days of skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding docs on, and they're all free.
Friday night, they've got The Legend of Eddie Aikau and The Little Things.
Saturday afternoon, there's Northern Grease, Skateboarding in Pine Ridge and some Red Riding videos.
This one has a cash bar and a snack bar.
WHAT: BEER — Peg Beer Co. debuts Don't Call Me Honey
When: Sunday, April 2, 5-7 p.m.
Where: Peg Beer Co. at 125 Pacific Ave.
Cost: $2 to $8
Peg Beer Co. is opening their community tap this weekend, which means you can try a brand new beer and support a good cause all at once!
The brewery is going to make a new brew every few months with the proceeds going to charity.
The first one was brewed on International Women's Day, and the proceeds from all the pints will go to the Women's Health Clinic.
Don't Call Me Honey is a brown ale with local honey and local hops.
They're debuting the new tap and beer with a little party Sunday from 5 p.m. till 7 p.m.
You can get 5 ounces of the special brew for $2, 10 oz for $4, 16 oz for $6.50 or 20 oz for $8. That's a lot of numbers so I advise just getting the biggest size.
