Teghan's top 5 things to do in Winnipeg this weekend (June 3-5)

There are probably too many good things happening Friday night for you to make it to all of them, but if you do, I will be so impressed.

Synonym Art Consultation is partying with Daughters of Reykjavík at Tallest Poppy this weekend, and before that the Winnipeg Art Gallery is doing a new thing for First Fridays.

Over in St. Boniface, Nuit de_ART has work from Janelle Tougas, Mathieu Bohémier and André Dionne with performances from Mama Cutsworth, Andrina Turenne and Mise en Scene.

Oh and on Saturday, Spaceland has a full day of music, comedy and food in a lot party downtown, but you have to save some energy for the Pride Parade and rally on Sunday!

WHAT: ART/MUSIC – Daughters of Reykjavík at Tallest Poppy

When: Friday, June 3 at 10 p.m.

Where: The Tallest Poppy  at 103 Sherbrook St.

Cost: FREE

Synonym has a very special First Friday after party this weekend with The Daughters of Reykjavík.

Five of the members will be curating an installation with sculpture and video after their Thursday night performance at the Sherbrook Inn.

BABA YAGA will be there as usual, and the best part is this very warm and welcoming party is totally free!

I think this one will be jam-packed, so go early for good vibes and drinks and snacks!

WHAT: ART – Nuit de_ART

When: Friday, June 3 from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m.

Where: La Maison des artistes visuels at 219 Provencher Blvd.

Cost: $20

The third annual Nuit de_ART is on at La Maison des artistes visuels Friday night in St. Boniface.

It's a lovely outdoor celebration of Francophone art with music, fancy drinks and cozy fires.

This year, there will be work from Janelle Tougas, Mathieu Bohémier and André Dionne.

They've also brought in Mama Cutsworth to spin as well as Andrina Turenne and Mise en Scene to perform.

All are welcome, and if you don't mind the hop over the bridge, it should be a very fun night.

WHAT: ART – First Fridays at the WAG

When: Friday, June 3 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Where: Winnipeg Art Gallery at 300 Memorial Blvd.

Cost: FREE

First Fridays is adding the WAG to their list of galleries free to the public this weekend.

The WAG is opening its doors from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. with a free tour at 8 p.m.

There is a ton to see there right now with the two Chagall exhibits and the Warkov exhibit that just opened.

There's also a screening of Pass System at 6:30 p.m., a film about racial segregation in Canada.

The film's director, Alex Williams, will be there for a discussion after the film around 7:30 p.m.

Next weekend, Karel Funk's work will be added to the mix.

WHAT: LOT PARTY – Spaceland

When: Saturday, June 4 from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Where: 400 Portage Ave.

Cost: $15 advance, $20 door

There's a big party in an empty lot on Saturday, and it's my top pick this weekend.

Ghost Twin, Orlando Gloom, Vikings and SC Mira are all on the bill, as well as local comedians Tim Gray and Ben Walker.

There will be food trucks and video installations to check out too.

It runs all day, and the weather should be fine, so go check it out.

WHAT: PRIDE – Pride Parade

When: Sunday, June 5 at 12 p.m.

Where: Starts at Manitoba Legislature

Cost: FREE

Pride week caps this weekend with a rally at the legislative building and then the big parade!

It starts at noon on the grounds of the legislative building and will head down Memorial Boulevard to York Avenue to Garry Street and then all the way down Broadway and finish in Memorial Park.

If you can't make it to the parade, there are a ton of other things planned for Pride this weekend – including a free all-ages dance party at the WECC Saturday night, a pancake breakfast on Sunday at Club 200 and a dance party in support of scholarships for Queer People of Colour Winnipeg Sunday night.
