A 41-year-old Winnipeg cab driver has been charged with sexually assaulting one of his customers.

A 41-year-old Winnipeg taxicab driver has been charged with sexually assaulting one of his customers.

According to police, a 21-year-old woman called a cab company around 5:15 a.m. Tuesday for a ride to her home in the city's River Heights neighbourhood.

Once she was in the vehicle the driver sexually assaulted her, police said.

The woman tried to get out but was unable to, police added, but did not explain how she was prevented from doing so.

The cabbie then drove the woman home and allegedly sexually assaulted her again before she was able to get out of the car.

The woman called police when she got into the house.

The cab driver has also been charged with forcible confinement.

He has been released from police custody on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
