Target Canada Co. filed for creditor protection earlier this month and announced it would be closing all of its Canadian locations, less than two years after opening.
Now, a number of Winnipeg companies are waiting to be paid.
Top of the list is Bison Transport Inc., which Target Canada Co. owed $846,216 as of Jan. 15.
Also on the list, Old Dutch Foods and Nygard International.
The Province of Manitoba’s taxation division is also reportedly owed more than $1 million.
None of the companies on the list wanted to comment on the outstanding debts.
A provincial official said the province is not able to discuss any information about a specific taxpayer – in this case, Target Canada Co.
A City of Winnipeg official said, “Target’s future business activities now fall under rules established by Federal legislation. Any amounts owed by Target to the City of Winnipeg will be addressed as part of that process.”
