Stony Mountain inmate dies, prison put on lockdown

An inmate at Stony Mountain is dead and the prison was put on lockdown on Monday night, a spokesperson with the Union of Canadian Correctional Officers (UCCO) says.

An inmate at Stony Mountain Institution is dead and the prison was put on lockdown on Monday night, a spokesperson with the Union of Canadian Correctional Officers (UCCO) says.

The inmate was found dead on Monday night at about 7 p.m. at Manitoba's federal medium-security facility, James Bloomfield, the president of the UCCO's prairie region, told CBC News. The prison was put on lockdown following the death.

RCMP and the Critical Incident Stress Management team were called to what Bloomfield referred to as "a difficult scene."
