A man wanted in connection to a homicide last month was arrested after a 12-hour standoff in Winnipeg's North End that started Monday afternoon and ended Tuesday morning.

Police were called around 1:30 p.m. Monday to a home on Anderson Avenue near Salter Street, where Alex Arumeul Genaille, 23, was believed to be inside.

He was considered armed and dangerous so a large area was cordoned off around the house, police said.

"Over the next twelve hours the incident developed into an armed and barricaded event [and] various tactical operations were deployed to extract the suspect," police said in a news release.

Around 2:30 a.m., officers went into the home and found Genaille hiding and in possession of two firearms.

He was taken into custody and turned over to the police service's Homicide Unit, where he was charged with second-degree murder in the Dec. 9 death of Anthony Sinclair, as well as multiple firearms offences.

Sinclair, 35, was on his way to a convenience store in the area of Stella Avenue and McGregor Street when he was shot. He later died in hospital.
