Winnipeg police are investigating after three people were shot at a Portage Avenue hookah bar early Saturday morning.

A police duty officer told CBC News that officers were called to Spades Lounge and Hookah Bar after shots were fired at about 1:10 a.m.

Three people were rushed to hospital with "pretty serious gunshot wounds," the officer added.

On Saturday morning, several Winnipeg Police Service vehicles were parked outside of the bar. The sidewalk in front of the building, which is between Langside and Young streets, was cordoned off with yellow police tape.

Several items could be seen on the ground within the police barrier, including a pair of white sneakers, a small grey backpack and a piece of white fabric near a planter. One of the metal barricades near the building's front door was also on the ground.

Officers had left the scene by Saturday afternoon.

The status of the three people who were shot isn't known at this time.

No arrests have been reported.
