Simon & Garfunkel Winnipeg concert postponed

A much-anticipated reunion concert by Simon & Garfunkel slated to take place in Winnipeg next week has been postponed until July 8.

May 5 performance pushed to July 8 because of Garfunkel's vocal cord strain

A much-anticipated reunion concert by Simon & Garfunkel slated to take place in Winnipeg next week has been postponed.

The legendary folk duo was to play at the MTS Centre next Wednesday but has cancelled because Art Garfunkel has strained his vocal cords, the musicians' website said.

"Both Paul [Simon] and Art regret any inconvenience this has caused their fans and are looking forward to seeing them at the rescheduled shows," the statement read.

"In an effort to provide the highest quality performance for their audience, Paul and Art decided it would be best to move the scheduled concert dates.

"The dates have been rescheduled to allow for an adequate period of rest and rehabilitation, after which Art is expected to make a complete recovery."

The musicians are now slated to appear on July 8 at the downtown arena.

The singer-songwriters had many hit songs in the 1960s that remained popular long after the duo broke up in 1970, including Bridge Over Troubled Water, Cecilia,  The Boxer and Mrs. Robinson.

Simon went on to a successful solo career, and the two have reunited intermittently over the years for performances and tours,
