MMIW case: Arrest made in 2014 killing of Angela Marie Poorman
Woman found with stab wounds in Winnipeg's North End and died later in hospital
Winnipeg police have arrested a suspect in the slaying of Angela Marie Poorman, a mother of three who was stabbed to death two years ago.
A passerby called 911 after finding the 29-year-old injured on a sidewalk in the North End just before 6:30 a.m. on Dec. 14, 2014. Poorman was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died.
Const. Jason Michalyshen announced Tuesday that police arrested and charged an 18-year-old man with second-degree murder on Monday. His name is not being released because he was a minor at the time of the homicide. He remains in custody.
Poorman's story was covered as part of CBC's Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women series. Her mother, Janett Poorman, described her daughter as someone who was "always happy" and "made a bad situation into a good situation."

Police believe the woman who grew up on the Kawacatoose First Nation in Saskatchewan was stabbed several times following an argument on the street with a male over paying for sex.
Michalyshen said Poorman may not have known her attacker.
"Their encounter on this one particular morning was essentially an agreement for sexual services for cash," Michalyshen said.
"This agreement led to an argument specific to money and ultimately the accused in this matter allegedly produced a large knife and proceeded to strike or stab Ms. Poorman multiple times."
Forensics helped investigators track down a suspect, Michalyshen said, adding police have had contact with the man charged in the past. He was in custody when he was arrested and charged with murder, Michalyshen said.
After initially refusing to cover the costs of Poorman's funeral, Manitoba Justice reversed its decision and decided to pay.
Michalyshen said with the arrest in Poorman's case, all 25 homicide investigations opened in 2014 have now been resolved.
"That does not change the fact that family members and loved ones are without family members as a result of likely some very preventable incidents," Michalyshen said.
