Sean Demchuk, last suspect in 'Project Distress' arrested

The last of 14 suspects wanted in a massive police operation dubbed 'Project Distress' has been arrested. 

Sean Demchuk, 31, of Winnipeg is in police custody charged with conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine and cocaine, as well as possessing the proceeds of crime.

The Manitoba Integrated Organized Crime Task Force, made up of the Winnipeg Police Service, RCMP and Brandon Police Service carried out a number of raids earlier this month targeting high-level drug trafficking and organized crime in Manitoba, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia.

Among the raids they carried out was one on Demchuk's mother's home in Winnipeg Beach.

Geraldine Demchuk told CBC police used battering rams as they barged into her home at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday last week. 

She said it terrified her and both her front and back doors were knocked in, two smoke bombs were thrown into the house and a window was shattered leaving glass all over a bed.

Police were looking for her son, Sean, but she told them he wasn't there and never lived there.

Police said Demchuk was arrested this week without incident in Hamilton, Ontario.
