The Royal Winnipeg Ballet is making final preparations for its latest production, which it says is inspired by the experiences of residential school survivors.

Going Home Star – Truth and Reconciliation, which will open the ballet company's 75th season, is based on a story by Canadian author Joseph Boyden.

The RWB says the production tells many stories, both told and untold, by former residential school students and their families.

The piece was commissioned by the RWB and supported by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Going Home Star – Truth and Reconciliation will debut at the Centennial Concert Hall on Oct. 1 and run until Oct. 5.
