Raymond Robinson calls off second hunger protest

A First Nations elder in Manitoba has ended his second hunger protest days after it began.

Raymond Robinson embarked on his second protest on April 3, after his first went on for nearly 43 days.

Robinson fasted alongside Ontario Attawapiskat Chief Theresa Spence while the Idle No More movement was in full swing in January.

The elder from Cross Lake vowed to continue his hunger strike until change to First Nations funding agreements were revoked.

Robinson said he wanted Ottawa to negotiate with First Nations leaders on a nation-to-nation basis.

He called off the strike Tuesday morning but has not yet said why.
