Winnipeg police investigating serious assault in St. Boniface

Scraps of clothing and a shoe that appeared to be covered in blood could be seen lying on the ground outside the Centre Culturel Franco-Manitobain. Evidence markers were placed around the clothing, as well as along the nearly two blocks of Provencher.

Winnipeg police are investigating what they called a serious assault in the city's St. Boniface area.

Officers had a section of Provencher Boulevard closed for two blocks in both directions, from Des Meurons to Langevin streets, earlier Wednesday morning.

Police say they were called to a serious assault at 4:35 a.m.

Scraps of clothing and a shoe that appeared to be covered in blood could be seen lying on the ground outside the Centre Culturel Franco-Manitobain. Evidence markers were placed around the clothing, as well as along the nearly two blocks of Provencher.

Police offered no other details about the assault, including the status of the victim.

The street was reopened around 10 a.m.
