Winnipeg police officers and cadets canvassed the River Heights area on Wednesday morning, to give safety tips and invite people to a community forum.

12 teams of officers and cadets were door knocking between Grant Avenue and Academy Road in the area.

Property crime in River Heights has been a major source of irritation for residents — some even started a Facebook group that called on MPI to offer breaks on deductibles for the frequent break-ins.

Now, police are hosting a forum at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night at the Corydon Community Centre.

Officers in the area on Wednesday passed out flyers with information on how to prevent break-ins and invited residents to the meeting.

Officers have said more information on crime statistics for the area will be released at the meeting.
