OmniTrax suspends rail service to Churchill

OmniTrax said Friday it has suspended service between Gillam and Churchill until further notice due to "severe permafrost issues and its effect on railway surface conditions."

OmniTrax has suspended rail service to Churchill until further notice. Earlier this month, Via Rail blamed "operational reasons" for the cancellation of trains between Winnipeg and Churchill. (CBC)

OmniTrax said Friday it has suspended service between Gillam and Churchill until further notice due to "severe permafrost issues and its effect on railway surface conditions."

OmniTrax cited customer and employee safety and said the service will resume once the required track maintenance and surfacing has been completed. 

The town of Churchill tweeted the information, saying it insists OmniTrax provide updates to the northern community.
