Oh Doughnuts turns off deep fryer but Amanda Kinden will be back
Local pastry maker says she out grew her kitchen, takes a hiatus
Winnipeg's doughnut cases just got a little bit less interesting.
For several months Oh Doughnuts has been making some of the most unique pastries in our city. From their pink peppercorn glazed to the peanut butter and jam, their doughnuts flew off the shelves of local coffee shops almost as fast as the owner, Amanda Kinden, could make them — and that's part of the problem.
Some of Oh Doughnuts's more creative confections:
- Rootbeer float
- Ginger-lime curd
- Lavender glaze
- Dulce de leche
- Matcha green tea
- Thyme glaze
Kinden has been working out of the community kitchen at Knox United Church. That means she shares the space with several other bakers and has to make due with the equipment on hand.
The situation meant Kinden was working 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. six days a week in order to supply Winnipeg's coffee shops with her doughnuts, and it was taking a toll on her health.
"My mind was turning to mush," said Kinden.
So on April 8 she made an announcement on Twitter and Facebook.
Doughnuts won't be available until we find a space. Thanks for your support and doughnut love! This isn't goodbye-it's dough you later! ❤️

Kinden promises this isn't the end. She says Oh Doughnuts was always supposed to expand into a stand-alone location, but the 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. schedule prevented her from making it a reality.
Kinden says she's already been out looking at potential shops, and some Winnipeg neighbourhoods are wasting no time trying to woo her.

Kinden says she hopes to have the new location up and running by the fall.
