Occupy Winnipeg attracts 400

About 400 people converged on a downtown bank building as part of an Occupy Winnipeg event.

The Winnipeg crowd gathered Saturday at the TD Building at the corner of Portage Avenue and Fort Street.

"This is the protest against greed and work slavery," Aimee Sieple, who helped organize the event, told CBC News. "We want people to care more. We want people to recognize that everything is not OK."

The Occupy Winnipeg event is among dozens taking place in cities across Canada, following the spirit of an Occupy Wall Street protest in New York.

"This is the start of a movement," Winnipeg protester Trevor Semotok said.

The Winnipeg event was set to move to the grounds of the provincial legislature later on Saturday.

Some people were also planning to set up camp Saturday night in Memorial Park.
