Northern Manitoba highway named worst road by CAA voters
CAA releases the results of their fourth Worst Roads Campaign
With more than 6,100 votes and more than 100 comments on Facebook, CAA has released its fourth annual list for Manitoba's worst roads.
The winners—or losers are:
Rank | Road | Location |
1 | Highway 280 | Gillam |
2 | St. James Street | Winnipeg |
3 | Ness Avenue | Winnipeg |
4 | Empress Street | Winnipeg |
5 | 1st Street | Winkler |
6 | Highway 450 | Deloraine |
7 | Pembina Highway | Winnipeg |
8 | Scurfield Boulevard | Winnipeg |
9 | Highway 274 | Gilbert Plains |
10 | Archibald Street | Winnipeg |
CAA launched this year's Worst Road Campaign a month ago, asking Manitoba drivers to identify the province's worst streets, avenues, and highways.
Topping the list is Highway 280.
"Manitoba [Highway] 280, the only road connecting northern communities like Gillam and Split Lake to Thompson, has not only been nominated for this dishonour, it has dethroned long-standing St. James Street in Winnipeg," which is the reigning worst road since 2013, a CAA news release earlier this month said.
Hundreds of people shared their stories, including struggles with stone chips, washouts and muddy conditions, according to CAA.
CAA says potholes aren't the only problem plaguing Manitoba streets, they hope this campaign will pinpoint roads that need to be fixed, or ones with infrastructure issues, like traffic congestion or pedestrian safety.
