Nia Vardalos confirms My Big Fat Greek Wedding sequel
Winnipeg star Nia Vardalos says she's working on a sequel to her 2002 surprise smash My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
The 51-year-old confirmed via Twitter that the "entire big fat family" would be "invited back for the sequel."
According to multiple reports, the film would be produced by Gold Circle, HBO Films and Playtone, the production company co-founded by actor Tom Hanks.
A few jaded press corps will claim I ran out of money or just want to kiss John Corbett again. One of these things is true- Nia Vardalos
The original film centred on a Greek-American woman who fell in love with a non-Greek school-teacher, much to the consternation of her traditional family.
Written by and starring Vardalos, the film had a reported budget of only $5 million but went on to gross more than $200 million in North America alone and secured an Oscar nomination for Vardalos's script.
The cast also included John Corbett, Lainie Kazan, Michael Constantine and Andrea Martin.
"Now that I'm experiencing motherhood I feel ready to write this next chapter," Vardalos tweeted Tuesday night.
