Two new harbour seals have moved into the underwater tunnels at the Journey to Churchill exhibit at Assiniboine Park Zoo.

Anton and Emil, 10 months old and originally from Germany, are now joining Neptune, a blind harbour seal transferred to Winnipeg last year from the Vancouver aquarium. They share the tunnels with the zoo's seven-strong polar bear colony.

"All of us at the Assiniboine Park Zoo are thrilled to welcome Anton and Emil and we can't wait to have the community come and visit them," Brian Joseph, Director of Zoological Operations at the zoo, said in a statement.

"Visitors will be inspired by these beautiful creatures and will also take home a better understanding of the role they play in our natural world."

A diver and a zookeeper were to join the seals in the water later in the day.

Another blind harbour seal died at the zoo last November after becoming entangled in an underwater drain.
