Mayor Brian Bowman lent a hand on Monday to help build Habitat for Humanity homes in Winnipeg.
Bowman picked up the hammer after first presenting a donation of $3,000 — money that came from his State of the City address in March — to Habitat for Humanity Manitoba CEO Sandy Hopkins.
"Habitat does tremendous work in our city, building safe, affordable housing for purchase by low-income working families in our community. I am pleased to donate a portion of the proceeds from my inaugural State of the City address … so they can continue to positively impact the lives of deserving Winnipeggers," said Bowman.
Local businessman Albert El Tassi, CEO of Peerless Garments, matched Bowman's contribution with a personal donation, making the donation to Habitat a total of $6,000.
