The Pioneer at Fort Garry, 1861 measures more than 16 by three metres and was previously on display at the downtown location of the Hudson’s Bay store.

The oil on canvas mural by Adam Sheriff Scott hung above the main floor elevator in the store from 1927 until it was removed in January of this year.

The donation was made on Tuesday, marking the 40th anniversary of HBC’s archives to Manitoba Archives and the 20th anniversary of HBC making another donation of artifacts to Manitoba Archives and the Manitoba Museum.

Former premier Gary Filmon, current Heritage Minister Ron Lemieux, Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba Philip Lee and HBC History Foundation's David Pickwoad were all on hand for the announcement.
