Woman, 49, dead in St. Boniface homicide, police say
No arrests made in death of woman at home in 500 block of Marion Street
A homicide investigation at a home in St. Boniface all morning involves the death of a woman in her 40s, police say.
Police were called to a home in the 500 block of Marion Street at about 8:40 a.m. Friday after reports of a sudden death.
"The circumstances around her death are considered suspicious in nature," Const. Jason Michelyshen told reporters Friday afternoon.
Steve Marsden lives on Doucet Street just behind the Marion location where investigators remained late into the evening Friday.
"We've been living here [since] 12 years ago. It's been a very quiet neighbourhood, you know, kids play here all the time," said Marsden. "We've never had anything like this happen. It concerns me."
'A very loud noise'
Marsden said his neighbours told him they heard loud noises in the area early Friday morning.
"About six o'clock this morning they heard some loud noises. There were some guesses on what it could have been," Marsden said. "They may have been gunshots or it may have been heavy sheets of plywood. What they do remember is that it's a very loud noise."
No arrests have been made. Police have notified the woman's family and won't be releasing her identity to the public.
Police are waiting on autopsy results. The investigation continues.
Anyone with information that could help police in the investigation is asked to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers 204-786-TIPS (8477).
