A 38-year-old man is facing a manslaughter charge following the death of a Winnipeg restaurant owner earlier this week.

Curtis Ross Dalebozik has been charged in the death of Kyriakos Vogiatzakis, 51, following a fight in front of Vogiatzakis's Portage Avenue restaurant on Wednesday.

Police previously said officers responded to a report of a fight in front of the Cork & Flame, on Portage Avenue west of Sturgeon Road, around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Vogiatzakis was rushed to hospital in critical condition but died, the Winnipeg Police Service said Thursday. Police also said at that point a person had been taken into custody, and that the major crimes unit was investigating.

In an update Saturday, police said Vogiatzakis and Dalebozik "have had prior contact near the business."

They got into a confrontation, and Vogiatzakis was pushed to the ground and assaulted until he lost consciousness, police allege.

A police spokesperson told CBC that Dalebozik has been known to loiter around the business, though it's not known how many times he and Vogiatzakis might have interacted before Wednesday.

Dalebozik has also been charged with uttering threats and remains in custody, police said in a Saturday news release.
