Manitoba's Progressive Conservatives will vote for Myrna Driedger to be Manitoba's next Speaker.

On Tuesday, Premier-designate Brian Pallister will be officially sworn as Premier, along with his cabinet, and later this month, the Manitoba Legislative Assembly will vote on a new Speaker.

Monday night, the PCs said they would support MLA-elect Driedger in her bid to be the next Speaker.

The Speaker enforces rules and decorum in the legislature and chairs the legislative administration committee. They are also the assembly's official representative to other governments.

Driedger is a long-time MLA, who was first elected in Charleswood in 1999. She has held the seat since then and was re-elected in last month's provincial election.

Manitoba MLAs will officially vote in a new Speaker on May 16.
