Manitoba marks Pink Shirt Day with promise of 'code of conduct'

A giant pink blanket was unfurled in the Manitoba Legislature Wednesday. 

Brandon University's Anti-Bullying Society has been gathering signatures on the blanket for more than a year.

Seven thousand people have signed it so far, and Wednesday, it made a stop at the legislature to mark Pink Shirt Day, a day to raise awareness of bullying in schools.

Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger and other MLA's added their signatures. 

Education and Advanced Learning Minister James Allum said the province will introduce a new 'code of conduct' for schools, outlining clear instructions on how to deal with bullying.

"Depending on circumstance, the code of conduct sets out a series of guidelines on how a principal ought to react," he said. "Among those actions is, of course, a dialogue with parents, talking to students."
