Manitoba Hydro raising electricity rates

Manitoban’s are paying more for electricity as of May 1.

The Public Utility Board has given Manitoba Hydro permission to raise its electricity rates by 2.75 per cent Tuesday, but the Crown corporation would’ve liked to have seen a greater increase.

The PUB denied hydro’s requested 3.95 per cent increase, because they are still reviewing hydro’s development plans.

Hydro said it needs more money due to reduced revenues from export sales and higher operating costs at the Wuskwatim generating station.

Hydro plans on seeking another rate increase this fall.
