Manitoba is creating a new palliative care program specialist to develop the best possible training to help people nearing the end of their lives.

Health Minister Kelvin Goertzen says the specialist will lead the development and delivery of end-of-life care education to health-care providers and volunteers across the province.

Goertzen says enhancing educational resources will improve palliative-care services, particularly in rural and northern Manitoba.

The specialist will be based in the Southern Health region, but will provide services across Manitoba.
