Man hit by SUV at Notre Dame Avenue car wash dies
Police believe Infiniti QX60 struck pedestrian while entering car wash on Notre Dame Avenue at 2:40 a.m.
A 48-year-old man is dead after he was struck by an SUV at a car wash on the weekend, Winnipeg police say.
"This is something very much out of the ordinary when we talk about collisions," Const. Jason Michalyshen told CBC News on Monday. "Very unique circumstance."
Officers were called to the car wash on Notre Dame Avenue, near Langside Street, on Saturday around 2:40 a.m. after reports of a crash, a Winnipeg police news release said on Monday.
An Infiniti QX60 driven by a 56-year-old hit the 48-year-old while going through the car wash garage doorway, police said.
Investigators believe the victim was lying inside near the entrance when he was hit by the SUV. He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The 48-year-old has been identified, but police haven't released his name. An autopsy is being done to confirm the cause of death, Michalyshen said.
The driver stayed and waited for police to arrive, Michalyshen said. No arrests have been made.
