Man charged in Winnipeg woman's death

A Winnipeg man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a 24-year-old woman in August.

A Winnipeg man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a 24-year-old woman in August.

Max Maurice Richard, 36, has been charged in connection with the death of April Helen Hornbrook, Winnipeg police announced Sunday.

Hornbrook's body was found on Aug. 27 in the rear of a vacant building on the 700 block of Main Street near Sutherland Avenue.

At the time, injuries were found on Hornbrook's upper body. The cause of death has since been determined as blunt force trauma, according to police.

Police say Richard is in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.

Hornbrook's death is the city's 28th homicide of this year.
