The Assiniboine Park Zoo exhibit Journey to Churchill is being nationally recognized as a member of the Canadian Signature Experience Collection, a designation awarded by Destination Canada, the national tourism marketing association.

Journey to Churchill is one of 10 new experiences and the only destination in Manitoba added to the collection this year. Other Manitoba attractions named to the collection in past years include wildlife tours in Churchill, Man., the Hermetic Code tour of the Manitoba Legislative Building and Oak Hammock Marsh.

Chantal Sturk-Nadeau, senior vice-president of Tourism Winnipeg, said Journey to Churchill has been an "all-star attraction" from the beginning.

"[It elevated] the city's profile to a new level," she said in a news release issued by Tourism Winnipeg on Thursday.

"This honour further proves that Winnipeg is filled with extraordinary experiences and continues to build our credibility as a four-season destination."

Cody Chomiak, director of marketing at Tourism Winnipeg, said the honour raises Winnipeg's profile in a global context, and shows the city's "high market visibility."

"With the increased marketing efforts through Destination Canada, new audiences can get the opportunity for this once-in-a-lifetime experience," he said.

The 90-minute exhibit tour features the wildlife, geography and culture of Manitoba's north. Visitors can find polar bears swimming and playing in underwater viewing tunnels or watch the northern lights in the Aurora Borealis Theatre.
